AboutKidsHealth is working to build a national partnership in child health education with paediatric hospitals across Canada. One of the goals of the partnership is to create a standardized national library of child health information that will be available online, in print, and as audio, video, or animated media. Today, our partner hospital partners include The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Children’s Hospital of London Health Sciences Centre, and BC Children’s Hospital as well as IWK Health Centre in Halifax.
We are a not for profit organization. We are a commercial-free online source for trusted child health information. Our content is unbiased and evidence-based, and we are funded primarily through government grants and partnerships that support our mission. We rely on the support of strategic partners and individual donors to help fund the development of new programs. Additional support is generated through partnerships with corporations, foundations, and other groups that support the mission of AboutKidsHealth.
Our partners in children's health
The Hospital for Sick Children
AboutKidsHealth is the patient education group of The Hospital for Sick Children, known to many as SickKids. SickKids is one of the largest paediatric teaching hospitals in the world, with an international reputation for excellence in health care, research, and education. SickKids is committed to improving the health and wellbeing of children and youth across Canada and around the world. Founded in 1875 and affiliated with the University of Toronto, SickKids is one of Canada’s most research-intensive hospitals and has generated discoveries that have helped children globally.
IWK Health Centre (Halifax)
In 2008, IWK Health Centre was the first hospital to join our collaborative partnership. IWK Health Centre provides quality care to women, children, youth and families in the Maritime Provinces and beyond. In addition to providing highly specialized (tertiary) care, the IWK also provides primary care services. The IWK is also engaged in leading-edge research; works to promote healthy lifestyles for families; and supports education opportunities for health professionals and other learners.
London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC)
London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) is one of Canada’s largest acute-care teaching hospitals and is dedicated to excellence in patient care, teaching, and research. For more than 135 years, LHSC has provided patient care for the people of London, Ontario, the region, and beyond. Many national and international medical breakthroughs have been pioneered at LHSC, to the benefit of patients at home and around the world. Through its affiliation with The University of Western Ontario and more than 30 other educational institutions, LHSC trains more than 1,800 medical and health care professionals annually.
BC Children’s Hospital (BC Children’s)
BC Children's Hospital (BC Children's) provides expert care for the most seriously ill or injured children from across British Columbia. Child development and rehabilitation is provided by Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children, a program of BC Children's.
