Blood Flow Through the Heart

Get Adobe Flash player

An interactive, Flash animated diagram of the human heart (and lungs, because their functions are so closely intertwined), focusing on the pattern of blood flow. First, deoxygenated blood enters the right side of the heart and is pumped to the lungs to absorb oxygen. The oxygenated blood is then returned to the heart, but this time to the left side, then into the aorta, and from there to the rest of the body. Roll-over individual parts to learn about their functions, and click through an animated slideshow to follow the flow of deoxygenated and oxygenated blood through the heart and lungs.
