Baby bites hard

My 10-month-old bites, hard. He has always done this, even before he had teeth, but now it is leaving bruises and he is relentless. Once he gets going, I can try to distract him, but it doesn't really work. He doesn't seem to be angry. Is he trying to tell me something? What can I do to teach him that this is not ok?

I assume you mean he bites people, especially you. He almost certainly is not being bad. He is just interacting with his environment. There are several things you can do. First of all, it is important to reduce his opportunity to bite. Help him by keeping your fingers and face out of his mouth. All adults and older children should be helped to make this happen. Second, each time he does bite, firmly and loudly tell him "No biting." If he cries, don't comfort him. Third, make sure there are lots of interesting things for him to do other than biting.
