Understanding Diagnosis

Now that you know what JIA is, are you wondering how how it is diagnosed? Are you curious about what tests need to be done? Do you worry about whether these tests will be uncomfortable? Do you want to know more about check-ups or eye exams?

In this section of the juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) resource centre, you will:

  • find out how JIA is diagnosed
  • learn about some of the common blood tests used to diagnose or monitor JIA
  • find out about the imaging tests like X-rays, bone scans, bone density tests, and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)
  • learn why regular eye exams are important if a child has JIA
  • learn why it is important that children with JIA attend regular check-ups for their JIA
