Premature babies are at risk for several different types of medical problems. The more common problems, such as those affecting the heart, lungs, digestive system and brain, are addressed in detail in other sections.
This section discusses treatment of some of the additional problems premature babies commonly face. Specifically these are:
- anemia of prematurity
- apnea of prematurity
- retinopathy of prematurity
Like problems associated with the heart, lungs, digestive system and brain, the conditions addressed here can range widely in their course, complexity and severity.
It should also be noted while information about any condition and the various body systems they may affect is presented on separate pages of this site, treatment never occurs without looking at the body at a whole. In other words, conditions that affect one part or system of the body directly often have important implications for another part or system. Therefore, no condition is ever treated in isolation.
