A nurse will ask your teen to rate their pain. This helps the nurses make sure that your teen is getting the right amount of pain medication.

Spinal cord testing

Both doctors and nurses will test your teen’s nervous system. This is important to make sure there has been no injury to their spinal cord. The doctor will touch your teen with something sharp or dull while their eyes are closed, and ask if they can tell the difference. A nurse may ask your teen to wiggle their toes. The nurse will ask your teen to grasp their hand or finger and squeeze hard. The nurse may also have your teen close their eyes and ask your teen which toe they are touching.
Monitoring after scoliosis surgery
