Combination therapy is the use of active and passive therapies together. For example, your healthcare provider might suggest combining an active therapy (such as exercise) with a manual therapy (such as massage). As mentioned previously, using passive therapies in preparation for active therapies can help to ease the transition from being sedentary (inactive) to being more active.

What is the evidence?

There is strong evidence to suggest that combining manual therapy, exercise and pain education can help people with chronic pain. Talk to your healthcare team about which combination of therapies may be right for you.
