They are specially trained in handling and providing blood products and stem cells.

Occupational therapist (OT)

After the transplant, exercise and movement will be an important part of your child’s care. This is especially important since your child is hospitalized after their transplant. Occupational therapists are health professional trained to assess and treat any problems your child may have that may affect their ability to do everyday tasks. These include:

eating and swallowing

bathing

playing

school skills such as handwriting, attention, memory, and organization

Physiotherapist (PT)

A physiotherapist (PT), also called physiotherapist, is a health professional that assesses and treats movement problems caused by disease or injury. In the early stages of recovery, the PT may help your child keep the joints and muscles moving and help with activities such as sitting, standing, walking, and climbing stairs. At later stages, the PT will help your child become as active and independent as possible.

Housekeeping

Housekeepers play a very important role in keeping your child’s room and the entire blood and marrow transplant (BMT) unit clean. Since the transplant procedure weakens your child’s immune system temporarily, it is important that your child’s environment is clean.

Teachers

After the transplant, your child will spend a lot of time in the hospital. Teachers in the hospital help support your child’s educational activities. They also liaise with your child’s school. Maintaining your child’s schoolwork will help ease their eventual transition back to school.
Other team members of a blood and marrow transplant
