This information sheet explains what nystatin does, how to give it, and what side effects or problems your child may have when they take this medicine. </p><h2>Before giving nystatin to your child</h2> <p>Tell your child's doctor if your child is allergic to nystatin or any component of the medication.</p><h2>How should you give your child nystatin?</h2> <ul><li>Give this medicine for as long as your child's doctor or pharmacist tells you, even if your child seems better. </li> <li>Avoid missing doses by giving your child the medicine at the same times every day. Pick times that are easy for you to remember. </li> <li>Shake the bottle well before you give your child each dose. Measure the dose with the special dropper, syringe, or spoon the pharmacist gave you. </li> <li>If your child is a small baby, drop one-half of the dose on each side of their tongue. Or, your doctor may tell you to use a cotton swab to apply some of the liquid onto the sides of the baby's mouth. Infants should not be fed for 5 to 10 minutes after a dose is given.</li> <li>If your child is able, teach them to swish the medicine around the mouth and hold it there for as long as possible before swallowing it. </li></ul><h2>What should you do if your child misses a dose of nystatin?</h2> <ul><li>Give the missed dose as soon as you remember. </li> <li>If it is almost time for the next dose, skip the missed dose. Give the next dose at the regular time. </li> <li>Do not give your child two doses to make up for one missed dose. </li></ul><h2>What are the possible side effects of nystatin?</h2> <p>Your child may have some of these side effects while they take nystatin. Check with your child's doctor if your child continues to have any of these side effects, and they do not go away, or they bother your child: </p> <ul><li>diarrhea </li> <li>nausea or vomiting </li> <li>stomach pain </li></ul> <p>Rare but serious reactions may occur. Call your child's doctor or obtain emergency medical help if your child experiences wheezing, chest tightness, fever, itching, bad cough, blue skin colour, seizures, swelling of face, lips, tongue, or throat, or if your child is not acting normal. </p><h2>What safety measures should you take when your child is using nystatin?</h2> <p>Check with your child's doctor or pharmacist before giving your child any other medicines (prescription, non-prescription, herbal or natural products). </p><h2>What other important information should you know about nystatin?</h2><ul><li>Keep a list of all medications your child is on and show the list to the doctor or pharmacist.</li><li>Do not share your child's medicine with others. Do not give anyone else's medicine to your child.</li><li>Make sure you always have enough nystatin to last through weekends, holidays, and vacations. Call your pharmacy at least two days before your child runs out of medicine to order refills. </li><li>Keep nystatin liquid at room temperature in a cool, dry place away from sunlight. Do NOT store it in the bathroom or kitchen.</li><li>Do not keep any medicines that are out of date. La présente fiche de renseignements explique comment agit la nystatine, comment l'administrer et quels effets secondaires ou quels problèmes pourrait ressentir votre enfant pendant qu'il prend ce médicament.</p><h2>Avant de donner la nystatine à votre enfant</h2> <p>Informez le médecin de votre enfant si ce dernier est allergique à la nystatine ou à tout élément entrant dans la composition de ce médicament.</p><h2>Comment administrer la nystatine à votre enfant</h2> <ul><li>Administrez ce médicament pendant toute la durée indiquée par le médecin de votre enfant ou le pharmacien, même si votre enfant semble se porter mieux.</li> <li>Évitez de manquer des doses en donnant ce médicament à votre enfant aux mêmes heures tous les jours. Choisissez des heures dont il vous sera facile de vous souvenir.</li> <li>Agitez bien la bouteille avant de donner chaque dose à votre enfant. Mesurez la dose avec le compte-goutte, la seringue ou la cuillère spéciale que le pharmacien vous a donné.</li> <li>Si vous avez un jeune bébé, laissez tomber une goutte de la dose sur chaque côté de sa langue. Votre médecin pourrait aussi vous indiquer d'utiliser un coton-tige pour appliquer un peu de liquide sur les côtés de sa bouche. Il faut attendre de 5 à 10 minutes après l'application d'une dose avant de nourrir les enfants en bas âge. </li> <li>Si votre enfant en est capable, montrez-lui comment brasser le médicament dans sa bouche et le garder dans sa bouche aussi longtemps que possible avant de l'avaler.</li></ul><h2>Que faire si votre enfant manque une dose de nystatine?</h2> <ul><li>Donnez-lui la dose manquée dès que vous y pensez.</li> <li>S'il est presque l'heure de la prochaine dose, sautez la dose manquée. Donnez-lui la prochaine dose à l'heure habituelle.</li> <li>Ne donnez pas 2 doses à votre enfant afin de compenser la dose manquée.</li></ul><h2>Quels sont les effets secondaires possibles de la nystatine?</h2> <p>Votre enfant pourrait éprouver certains des effets secondaires suivants pendant qu'il prend la nystatine. Consultez votre médecin si ces effets secondaires persistent et ne disparaissent pas ou s'ils incommodent votre enfant :</p> <ul><li>diarrhée</li> <li>nausée ou vomissements</li> <li>douleurs gastriques</li></ul> <p>Certaines réactions sont graves bien qu'elles soient rares. Communiquez avec votre médecin ou obtenez des soins d'urgence pour votre enfant dans les cas de manifestations suivantes : respiration sifflante, serrement de poitrine, fièvre, démangeaisons, mauvaise toux, bleuissement de la peau, convulsions, enflure du visage, des lèvres, de la langue ou de la gorge ou comportement anormal.</p><h2>Mesures de sécurité à prendre lorsque votre enfant prend la nystatine</h2> <p>Consultez le médecin de votre enfant ou le pharmacien avant de donner tout autre médicament à votre enfant (médicaments sur ordonnance, médicaments sans ordonnance, produits à base d'herbes médicinales ou produits naturels).</p><h2>Mesures de sécurité à prendre lorsque votre enfant prend la nystatine</h2><ul><li>Consultez le médecin de votre enfant ou le pharmacien avant de donner tout autre médicament à votre enfant (médicaments sur ordonnance, médicaments sans ordonnance, produits à base d'herbes médicinales ou produits naturels).</li><h2>Autres renseignements importants dont vous devez disposer au sujet de la nystatine</h2><ul><li>Dressez une liste de tous les médicaments que prend votre enfant et présentez-la au médecin ou au pharmacien.</li><li>Ne partagez pas les médicaments de votre enfant avec d'autres personnes. Ne donnez jamais les médicaments d'une autre personne à votre enfant.</li><li>Assurez-vous de toujours avoir des réserves suffisantes de nystatine pour les fins de semaine, les congés et les vacances. Téléphonez à la pharmacie pour renouveler votre ordonnance au moins 2 jours avant d'avoir épuisé tous les médicaments.</li><li>Conservez la nystatine liquide à température ambiante dans un endroit frais, sec et à l'abri des rayons du soleil. NE la conservez PAS dans la salle de bain ou la cuisine.</li><li>Ne conservez pas les médicaments périmés.
