Put the cap on its side on a clean surface, such as a new tissue. Be careful that the tip of the bottle does not touch your child's eyes, your fingers or any other surface.</li><li>Keep a separate box of tissues to use for the eyes only.</li><li>Have your child sit or lie down. Tilt their head back and ask them to look up at the ceiling. If your child is under three, consider wrapping them in a blanket or towel. This will keep them from moving their arms and make it easier to put in the drops.<br></li><li>Hold your child's forehead steady with one hand and raise the upper eyelid of the affected eye with the thumb of the same hand. If you are right-handed, it is easier to be on the right side of your child and steady the forehead with the left hand. If you are left-handed, it is easier to be on the left side of your child and steady the forehead with the right hand.</li><li>Use the other hand to hold the bottle with the thumb and third finger.</li><li>Position the bottle above the eye that needs the drops.</li><li>Using the little finger of the same hand that is holding the bottle, pull the lower eyelid down gently to form a pocket-like opening.</li><li>Place the index finger on the bottom of the bottle. This will help release the drops.</li><li>Put the prescribed number of drops in the pocket-like opening of the eye.</li><li>Gently release the lower eyelid. Then, gently release the upper eyelid. Keep holding your child's forehead.<br></li><li>Use your little finger to apply gentle pressure for about five to 10 seconds to the inside corner of the eye, beside the bridge of the nose. This stops the drops from going into the tear duct, allowing them to be absorbed into the eye.</li><li>If your child can follow instructions, ask them to close their eyes gently and look up. This helps the medicine work better. Closing the eye tightly or blinking more than usual will remove the medicine.</li><li>Wipe off any excess tears with a new, clean tissue.</li><li>Let go of your child's forehead.<br></li></ol><h2>After putting in eye drops</h2> <ul> <li>Put the cap back on the bottle of eye drops. </li> <li>Wash your hands again with soap and water and dry them well. </li> <li>Store the eye drops out of children's reach. </li> <li>Some eye drops may cause blurred vision. Placez le bouchon de côté sur une surface propre comme un mouchoir propre. Assurez-vous que l’extrémité de la bouteille ne touche pas l’œil de votre enfant, vos doigts ou tout autre surface.</li><li>Gardez une boîte de mouchoirs en papier que vous utiliserez pour les yeux seulement.</li><li>Demandez à votre enfant de s’asseoir ou de s’allonger. Inclinez sa tête vers l’arrière et demandez-lui de regarder le plafond. Chez les enfants âgés de moins de 3 ans, il est plus facile de draper d'une couverture ou d'une serviette l’enfant pour éviter qu’il ne bouge ses bras pendant que vous mettez les gouttes.</li><li>Tenez fermement le front de votre enfant avec une main et soulevez la paupière supérieure de l’œil atteint avec le pouce de la même main. Pour les droitiers, il est plus facile de se placer à la droite de l’enfant et d’appuyer sur son front avec la main gauche. Pour les gauchers, il est plus facile de se placer à la gauche de l’enfant et d’appuyer sur son front avec la main droite.</li><li>Utilisez l’autre main pour tenir la bouteille entre le pouce et le majeur.</li><li>Placez la bouteille au-dessus de l’œil de votre enfant.</li><li>Avec l’auriculaire (petit doigt) de la main qui tient la bouteille, tirez délicatement sur la paupière inférieure pour former une petite poche sous l’œil.<br></li><li>Placez l’index au bas de la bouteille. Il sera plus facile de faire sortir les gouttes.</li><li>Placez le nombre de gouttes prescrit dans cette petite poche de l'œil.</li><li>Relâchez doucement la paupière inférieure. Ensuite, relâchez doucement la paupière supérieure. Continuez à tenir le front de votre enfant.</li><li>Avec l’auriculaire de la main sur le front de votre enfant, appliquez une pression légère pendant de 5 à 10 secondes sur le coin intérieur de l’œil, à côté de l’arrête du nez. Cela permet d’éviter que les gouttes s’échappent par le canal lacrymal (des larmes) et permet qu’elles soient absorbées par l’œil.</li><li>Si votre enfant peut suivre des instructions, demandez-lui de fermer doucement les yeux et de regarder vers le haut, les paupières fermées. Cela permet au médicament de mieux agir. Fermer les yeux trop fort ou clogner des paupières plus qu’à l’habitude fera s’échapper​ le médicament.​</li><li>Essuyez l'excès de larmes avec un mouchoir propre.</li><li>Relâchez le front de votre enfant.<br></li></ol><h2>Après avoir mis les gouttes ophtalmiques</h2> <ul><li>Replacez le bouchon sur la bouteille de gouttes ophtalmiques.</li> <li>Lavez-vous bien les mains de nouveau à l’eau et au savon, et séchez-les.</li> <li>Rangez les gouttes ophtalmiques hors de la portée des enfants.</li> <li>Certaines gouttes ophtalmiques peuvent brouiller la vision.
