  • Urticaria pigmentosa is the most common type of childhood cutaneous mastocytosis.
  • Most UP appears before the age of two and often disappears or improves greatly by puberty.
  • In most children, symptoms are limited to redness, swelling and itchiness, but diarrhea, vomiting, flushing, wheezing and anaphylaxis can also occur.
  • There is no cure for UP. Treatment is aimed at relieving symptoms by using medications and avoiding triggers.
