Key points

  • An MRE is a special type of MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging).
  • Your child will have to lie down and remain still for 45 to 60 minutes during an MRE.
  • Your child should not eat or drink six hours before the MRE.
  • Your child may have an upset stomach with frequent bowel movements after the MRE. This will pass within a few hours.
