Key points

  • Please make sure to have something to eat and drink before visiting your child so you can look after them safely.
  • Your child's doctor will come speak to you after the surgery.
  • The operating room (OR) team will bring your child to PACU where they will wake up from the anesthetic and the team will let you know when you can visit them.
  • Your child’s nurse will support you in providing comfort to your child after surgery.
  • Only one caregiver is allowed in the PACU.
  • Before discharge, your nurse will talk to you about your child's medication, how to care for your child at home and offer your child a clear liquid before leaving.
