Learn how to use a Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator.

Key points

  • The Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator may be recommended for your child for BPAP therapy.
  • It is important to learn how to use and maintain your Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator.

The Resmed Stellar 150  ventilator can be used for bi-level  positive airway pressure (BPAP) therapy. The device blows air under two different pressures through a mask. A higher pressure is used to help fill the lungs with air when breathing in and a lower pressure is used when breathing out to prevent the airway from closing.

Assembling the circuit and filling the water chamber on the Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator

The Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator is provided by the Ontario Ventilator Equipment Pool (VEP). This is a branch of the Assistive Devices Program (ADP).

Watch the video to learn how to access the clinical setting menu and go through the settings to confirm the prescription for your child's ventilator settings on the Resmed Stellar 150.

Starting and stopping therapy on the Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator

Watch the video to learn how to start therapy by:

  • starting the machine
  • confirming the unit is on
  • checking for leaks around the mask
  • making sure there is flow coming from the exhalation port on the mask
  • making sure your child is breathing comfortably

Learn how to stop therapy by:

  • stopping the machine
  • confirming that therapy is stopped
  • removing the mask from your child

Performing a learn circuit on the Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator

A learn circuit can assess and adjust to the changes in the circuit, and the type of mask and connectors being used. It helps the machine learn the flow, optimize therapy and monitor for accuracy. A learn circuit is recommended:

  • whenever you change the mask
  • any time you add or remove connectors
  • when you add or remove the humidifier from the machine

Watch the video to learn how to perform a learn circuit.

Setting ramp on the Resmed Stellar 150 ventilator

Ramp is a feature on the Resmed Stellar 150 that allows you to set how long it takes until the prescribed pressure is reached. It allows pressure to increase slowly and gently. This makes it easier for your child to tolerate ventilation pressure as they fall asleep.

Watch the video to learn how to set the ramp duration.
